Hi Friends,

So, we all know how super-amazing-incredible-awesome the SonicBlog is, but today I wanted to share a link from another really interesting blog I’ve been following:

http://www.musicthinktank.com/blog/what-does-it-mean-to-be-a-professional-musician.html

The blog post there is about what it means to be a “professional musician” and I think it really applies to a lot of the bands and promoters that we here at Sonicbids primarily work with.  The author, Steve Lawson, touches on the idea that there can (and should) be success and professionalism in music, even if you aren’t dealing with huge record labels, marketing campaigns and the like.  Being technically savvy and business-oriented with social media (like Sonicbids) are all part of this concept.

I suggest you read through the article, and perhaps think about how you can apply these ideas and thoughts to your Sonicbids Account.  It would be awesome to hear your thoughts and responses, so feel free comment back.

Rock on,

Tess

yeah, this guys advice is more “what not to do”, or “what not to think”… long tail, focus on the now, we have heard it all… most of these types of blogs lack the real world “how to”, examples of daily things that musicians should be doing…

Hi Tess, thanks so much for posting the link, I’m really glad you like the blog post – I’ve been writing a lot more about the subject over on my own blog at http://www.stevelawson.net – and will try to get round to writing more for musicthinktank.com soon!

Lou – it would seem that a) not everyone has heard it before, given the response, b) that you assume that one article is all I have to say on it.

Real World how to examples -

Tweet, at least 4 times a day, and respond to people who tweet back. Embed it on the front page of a blog-based site.
Blog – write about your own story, become the drama, suspense and comedy your listeners want to follow.
Use video – stream live via Qik, host video chats, post on video conversation sites and embed the videos on your blog. Use Youtube, and get a street team spreading the word.

Be honest, avoid marketing BS, interact, communicate and reward those who help spread the word.

Once we’re all doing that, we can get a bit more refined with it ;)
