Guttentag!

Well, it’s hard to believe I’m back from Popkomm already.  Where, oh where, do I begin?

To start, the entire trip was packed with great conversations.  Panos, Aliki and I had a great time meeting tons of existing Sonicbids members, artists that have heard of Sonicbids but haven’t signed up yet, and a bunch of great promoters.  I met such a diverse group of people from different countries producing some great international music.  The promoters came from both large festivals like Midem and WOMEX, and also independent record labels, agencies, music television stations and so much more.  I’m looking forward to the new people we found to contribute to both our artist and promoter community.

The first day we had a Member Dinner, where we got together an eclectic group of artists and artist managers to give us input and feedback.  It was very interesting because an Irish fellow named Alan who manages Sonicbids artist, The Kinetiks, and myself were the only native English speakers.  Regardless of any language barrier, we all managed to get along and chat with each other about the site, what people like and what we here at Sonicbids can improve on.  Other folks like our new friend Yair, (who manages an Isreali record label Anova Records) gave great feedback about what it’s like to do business in the music industry in his part of the world.  Panos wrote more and posted some photos about the dinner in his Brew — check them out here.

The second day was a long one at the booth, but I met some really great artists.  One of my favorites was Ann-K of the duo Atlars & Ann-K.  She was so excited an passionate about her music and told me that she sings anywhere possible, so I took her up on her offer and had her sing the opening of the first song on their EPK.  Here’s a video of her holding true to her word:

We also took a lot of photos that are all about our new I Am Sonicbids campaign.  In my photos below you can see that we brought a white board along with us so folks could write about who they are.  We told people to get creative, and they sure did!  I only put a few up here, but rest assured, there will be more appearing on our site — all in good time.  It was especially cool to meet the folks that we had up on our booth panels like Winter Springs and Indiana from Lamplight.

Last but not least, Aliki, Panos and I checked out some of the artist showcases at the Kulturbrauerei.  The Kulturbrauerei is an old brewery that was converted into a series of venues and it was really awesome.  Again, there are more photos of all that below and I’ve added some descriptions about what they are.  And while I’m talking about photos, I posted some of them on our Facebook Fan Page as well — check them out!

I could go on and on about all the amazing people I met, but I fear this post has gone too long already.  Enjoy the photos and, as always, you’ll be hearing more from me soon.

Love,
Tess
